Barcelona, Spain Norwegian Spirit February 13-23 - Barcelone, Spain

Board the Norwegian Spirit in Barcelona, Spain, and sail to popular Southern European ports on this 10-night cruise. After a relaxing day at sea, arrive in coastal Casablanca, Morocco, a multicultural hub featuring high-end boutiques, modern clubs, stretches of inviting beach, and Hispano-Moresque and Art Deco architecture. From Morocco, head to the Canary Islands, volcanic in origin and captivating with out-of-this-world landscapes. Start with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where you can explore Vegueta (old town), home to the Canarian Museum and Casa de Colon (the Christopher Columbus House). Venture a little farther down the coast to see the Maspalomas dunes and lighthouse. Make your next landfall in Tenerife, the archipelago’s largest and most populous island, and site of the tallest mountain in Spain, Pico del Teide. Tenerife is known for its sunny beaches, bustling nightlife, outdoor adventures and some of the biggest Carnaval celebrations outside Rio de Janeiro.

In Madeira, Portugal, enjoy a lush and mountainous archipelago made popular by its beautiful weather and namesake wine. Hike footpaths through the hills of Madeira’s port, Funchal, and take in sweeping views of the sea and forests when you reach the top. Continue to the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) in southern Spain and discover Malaga’s historic architecture, fabulous museums and picture-perfect shoreline. Make your final stop in Alicante, Spain, and stroll to the tune of a live band in the famed Paseo de la Explanada, the city’s beautiful seaside promenade. Return to Barcelona with memories to last a lifetime.

What we love:
• A staple of Canarian cuisine is papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), typically served with a tangy mojo picon sauce for dipping. Meals are often paired with locally sourced wines, including the volcanic Malvasia, a sweet white wine made from grapes grown in volcanic soil.
• In 1825, H.N. Coleridge (nephew of the renowned poet) wrote: “I should think the situation of Madeira the most enviable on the whole earth. It ensures every European comfort with almost every tropical luxury.”
• Malaga — among Europe’s oldest cities — was established in 770 B.C. as a Phoenician outpost.
